The world’s most unusual laws

Posted by paris | paris | Thursday 4 February 2010 1:15 pm

Almost every day new laws are put into action: this is the case of gay marriages, some immigration laws and the tobacco laws. Our societies change daily and our parliaments try to adapt to these changes as best as possible. But sometimes it arouses much debate among the citizens that do not hesitate to demonstrate if they don’t like these new changes. But there are some laws that we probably don’t know about due to their unusual character and they might be difficult to call them laws as such. At least they make us laugh. How about this: in France it was forbidden to call a pig Napoleon!

unusal-laws

Some are very funny and others are more serious than they seem. For example, in Israel, it is prohibited to pick your nose on Saturday. In Florida, single women who parachute jump on Sunday may go to prison. In England, a pregnant woman can pee anywhere, even on a policeman’s helmet and in Denver, it is illegal to lend your vacuum cleaner to a neighbour. You see, in all the corners of the planet there are absurd laws…

Which country do you think there is a law prohibiting masturbation? In Indonesia, and you should not smile when you know what’ll happen if you masturbate: the punishment is decapitation. And we continue with another hard one… In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife can legally kill her adulterous husband, but must do so with her own hands. But if it is the man who has been wronged, he can kill his wife in any way he chooses.

Here are some funny ones. In Germany, all the offices have to have a window so people can see the sky, “the sky has to be present in every office”. On Sunday in Rhode Island it is not allowed to sell toothpaste and toothbrushes to the same person. Finally, the cowboys have their own law in Blythe (California): to wear cowboy boots, they must possess at least two cows!

Another strange law in the Philippines: it is forbidden to drive with cars whose number plate ends in 1 or 2 on Mondays from seven in the morning to seven in the afternoon. On Tuesdays the same happens, but with the cars whose number plates end with 3 or 4, and so on until Friday. There are no restrictions for the weekend. In Memphis (Tennessee), there is what seems to be a chauvinistic law: It is illegal for a woman to drive unless there is a man accompanying her, and to warn pedestrians and motorists, women drivers have to wave a red flag. Incredible!

And there are many more… In 2007, The Times published a list of the 25 most absurd laws in the world. It is really hard to understand some of them, right? If you want to keep laughing, go to the French capital, you will have a great time there! For an unforgettable stay, rent Apartments in Paris, they are cheap and comfortable.

The Paris Metro

Posted by paris | paris | Tuesday 2 February 2010 11:55 am

Many people get hypnotized during a stroll through the French capital because of its beautiful historic symbols, its parks, its delicious gastronomy and its cultural richness. But moving around Paris is like running a marathon as its arrondissements (neighbourhoods) are quite extensive. Luckily there is the metro! If you want to move from the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre or Montmartre to the Seine or the Champs Elysees, you should take subway. With all the time one spends on the Parisian underground, it might be fun to share some stories and opinions about the Métropolitain.

Paris-Métro

The subway is probably the public space where most people gather daily. It’s estimated that in Paris about 4, 5 million people move around the 14 underground lines. It is the fourth busiest metro of the world after Moscow, Tokyo and Mexico. It has 366 stops and 292 stations, which puts it in second place worldwide behind New York (468 stops and 422 stations).

The most symbolic sign of the Paris metro is on the outside: they are the modernist typical entrances that announce “Métropolitain”, designed by Hector Guimard and there are 86 modernist entrances. But it is inside the subway where most of the stories happen. The Paris Metro is a maze, because you have to climb up and down several stairs and hallways. It’s a real nightmare if you take any luggage! But the music from the Metro musicians does accompany you. Did you know that it was in the passageways of the Parisian metro, where musicians like Ben Harper, Alain Souchon and Renaud were first discovered? Life goes on even in the depths.

Once on the platforms, whose walls are covered with tiles or posters advertising cultural events, you’ll notice a host of smells: some very nasty and others quite delicious. For example, in Châtelet a delicious aroma permeates everything (because of the perfumery that is located in Les Halles shopping centre). It is also said that some stations are like small museums for its original decor themes, such as the Louvre-Rivoli, which keeps copies of works of art, exhibited in lighted niches.

When you are aboard the metro, you can see the walls covered in graffiti and you will pass by many ghost stations. The best known are Haxo (between the lines 3a and 7a), Porte Molitor (lines 9 and 10) and Arsenal in the 5th line. These stations have never been open or were closed or have disappeared because of works or historical events. There is also a closed station to the public because it is used as a cinema or advertising studio (in Amelie, for example). It is the Porte des Lilas station – located between the lines 3a and 7a. One of the many films that have been shot in the Paris Metro is “Subway”, by Luc Besson (1985).

Paris would not be the same without its underground. The Parisian subway is a must if you visit the French capital. For your next stay in Paris, open your eyes even in the dark. For an unforgettable holiday, rent Apartments in Paris.

Sex and food, two pleasures that go hand in hand

Posted by paris | paris | Thursday 28 January 2010 12:49 pm

Sex and food are two basic human needs that are intimately linked. To eat, to drink and to love… who has never enjoyed such a wonderful combination? Open your mind to pleasure and enjoy the best food and the best sex at the same time. Cook thinking about you and your lover’s pleasure: prepare an erotic atmosphere with dishes that incite the carnal act. Forget the aphrodisiac recipes, of doubtful effectiveness, and focus on the art of cooking and eating to feel and convey pleasure.

sex-and-food

To seduce with food is an art. How about a dinner that begins on the table and ends in bed? Prepare the room for the occasion: place small dishes with fruit, chocolate, cream, jam, syrup… and do not forget something to drink (tea, spirits, wine or champagne are the perfect beverage). Use your partner’s body to try each and every one of the delights. Any part is valid: breasts, navel, genitals, mouth or neck.

Ice can be another highly erotic element. Using ice when kissing your partner can be an explosive mix. Let the cube melt between your lips. Play passing it from one mouth to the other, until it melts completely and let your tongues do the rest.

But kissing can go much further. The first kiss in the sexual act is comparable to the first bite of a delicious meal. Kissing is the same as eating; you have to bite, to suck and to taste… why not mix the pleasure of a kiss with the pleasure of a meal? Try the kisses wet in champagne or give your lover to try your lips dipped in any type of food: chocolate, fruit, anything goes!

How about an orgy of flavours among your lips? Try to combine sweet flavours like jam, cream, syrup or candies with warm and cold elements: ice cream, hot cake or flavoured ice cubes.

After all that food you are sure to get a bit dirty. Also take advantage of this to further lengthen the pleasure. Use perfumed water to wash yourself and your partner’s body in the most erotic way you can. Or if you prefer it, you can have a shower together.

Can you think of a better place to enjoy all these pleasures other than in the city of lights? The French capital waits for you with its finest delicatessens. Rent Apartments in Paris and taste the delights.

El Greco to Salvador Dalí: a Panorama of Spanish Art

Posted by paris | paris | Monday 25 January 2010 12:47 pm

What do you know of the history of Spanish art? If you want a complete panorama we encourage you to visit the exhibition “El Greco to Dali - the great Spanish masters”. The Pérez Simón Collection will grace the Jacquemart-Andre Museum in Paris from March 12th until early August 2010 and will provide 50 works of art from more than 25 Spanish masters, discovering or admiring the exceptional evolution from religious art to surrealist painting.

La Condesa de Chinchon

It is the first time that such a rich exhibition of Spanish paintings has been shown in France. It is an exhibition featuring twelve paintings never before exhibited to the public and others that are shown infrequently. Promoters say the jewel of the event will be a painting by Francisco de Goya- a portrait of Maria Theresa of Vallabriga and Rozas (1783). They also highlighted a selection of little known or studied works of the Spanish genius Salvador Dalí - ballet projects - and several drawings of Pablo Picasso’s blue period.

And there’s more! Thanks to Juan Antonio Pérez Simón (Asturias, 1941) who lives in Mexico and owns the largest collection of European art in Latin America, visitors can contemplate works of El Greco, Jose Ribera, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Goya, Sanchez Coello, Joaquin Sorolla Juan Gris, Picasso, Miró, Dalí and Antonio Tàpies. From the dark sacred art of the eighteenth century, through the official portraits, scenes of daily life in the nineteenth century, the naval scenes of Sorolla and the representation of women in the early XX, the exhibition ends with the drawings and paintings of the masters of Spanish Cubism and Surrealism. It is a unique opportunity to take note of the best eras in Spanish art, to travel through the history of artistic movements and appreciate the breaks between each master. The evolution of Spanish art will leave you speechless!

If you plan to go and visit this exceptional exhibition, please note that an audio guide can help you to better understand the twenty works of art – you can even download the commentary from the Internet. And if you want to explore further the richness and beauty of Spanish art, a catalogue of some 200 pages is on sale on your way out of the Musee Jacquemart-Andre.

Take advantage of a stay in Paris to discover this museum located next to the Champs-Elysees, a luxury hotel built during the nineteenth century. Come and discover its impressive permanent collection - French, Dutch and Italian Renaissance painting, objects and furniture - their reception rooms, its monumental staircase, winter garden and private apartments. You will enjoy an amazing scenery along with the most unprecedented exhibition of Spanish art. There’s no excuse not to come. Rent Paris apartments and make your trip a memorable and unique one.

An Evil Monster Called Disney

Posted by paris | paris | Friday 22 January 2010 12:16 pm

I grew up with Disney movies. Loved them! I wanted to be friends with Alice so she could show me her Wonderland and fly on a carpet like Aladdin and Jasmine. When Bambi’s mother died I cried, and I laughed so hard with the silly seven dwarves. But most of all, I wanted to be like Peter Pan and never grow up. Disney is magic, and their movies keep on enchanting many children around the world. But lately appeared some studies and investigations, where therapists and pedagogues draw the conclusion Disney movies have a bad influence on children. How so?

Disney Paris

Let’s take for example the little mermaid. It’s a story about a mermaid who wants to be human. There is nothing wrong with that, right? But she lies to her father, asks her friend (the crab) to lie to her father, who then goes crazy, bursts into rage and destroys her collection of ‘human things’. She makes a deal with Ursula, risking the lives of everyone in her kingdom, and without telling an adult where she is going. She is in love with Prince Eric, although she has never spoken to him. It’s pretty superficial, but hardly traumatic if you ask me.

There’s more. According to some crazy American scientists, if I have behavioural problems, it’s the fault of my favourite movie, Peter Pan. The three children fly with Peter to Neverland. They don’t ask questions, but just take off with a total stranger, again without warning an adult where they are going and with whom. Then there is Tinkerbell, the lovely little fairy with a super skinny waist, blond hair and a short dress that barely covers her bottom. Wendy on the other hand, is a good girl, with a traditional night gown and good manners. That’s why the mermaids (who sit all day on a rock combing their hair and being pretty) make fun of her. She’s different and definitely not cool.

But the biggest issue is racism. Peter is friends with the Indian Chief and his daughter Tiger Lily. They use the words ‘Squaw’ and ‘How’, and sing a song about how the redskins became red. They sing that a long time ago, a Native American became red after kissing a girl, therefore implying that they were originally white and ‘normal’. The Chief is by the way very uncivilized and savage, as he holds Michael and John hostage. Okay, first of all, remember that this movie was produced in 1953, a different era. And second, what is wrong with little boys having the time of their lives playing at Indians? With feathers on their heads and coloured stripes on their faces if they want to! Yes, it’s a stereotype and it might be untrue and offending to some, but that doesn’t mean they don’t respect other cultures or will develop racist ideas when they grow up.

Let’s continue with the sex. Some people accuse Disney of using hidden messages in their movies. Sex sells, that’s a fact. And now even Disney is said to use subliminal sexual images in their movies. In the little mermaid for example, Ariel lives in a castle of gold. And on the cover of the first video release, there was an odd structure on the castle wall, resembling a penis. The final scene is the wedding of Eric and Ariel, and if you look closely it appears that the bishop is having an erection. In the Lion King, there is a cloud of dust that forms the word ‘sex’ and a star shaped like a penis. In the flying carpet scene of Aladdin, there is a verbal hidden message saying ‘teenagers take off your clothes’. It’s only a whisper in a dialogue and almost inaudible but its there.

There is some good news though. According to a study by Sharon Hayes from the University of Florida, three year old girls who watch Disney movies do not worry more about their weight as do girls who watch Dora the Explorer. Thank god!

Am I going to forbid my children to watch The Lion King or Cinderella because of this? Hell no. I hope they will love the Disney movies just as much as I did when I was young. And to experience the magic to the fullest, why not spend a weekend in Disneyland Paris? Gather the whole family, rent the best apartments in Paris, and say hi to Peter Pan from me!

Is the anti Kama Sutra around you?

Posted by paris | paris | Wednesday 13 January 2010 11:26 am

You take the high heels off, the panties go flying, your lips meet, your hands are anxious and don’t know where to start exploring and suddenly your bodies entwine and adopt the first Karma Sutra position that comes to mind… This is just the beginning of the story, followed by many other adventures. Maybe you’ve arrived to this common moment – but less discussed in public, which title could be: boredom in bed. What are you thinking of? Surely you imagine intimate scenes, fantasies and desires that your body demands more than ever. If the show does not satisfy you sexually, you have to take action!

Boring in bed

When one meets alone with his friends and discuss about sex, one can hear things like: “It’s great, it’s always different; “we are so tired when we arrive home that we just want to sleep”; “the chemistry is great between u s”; “this is the first time I feel something like this” or “I’m boring, I do not know what to do”, and so on. Feeling bored in the bed with your partner may have very different origins.

If you take too much time with the same partner, you don’t have to be ashamed or feel unsure of your fantasies: the communication should be the best ally of your relationship. Is not this the case? Sometimes one is not boring, but is repressed. Learning and sharing is perhaps the best of sex.

Some people say that if you bored with your sexual life because you also get bored in your everyday life. The same happens if you eat every day your favourite dish, after some time you’ll hate it. The sex is like everything else, it has to be pampered. With or without salt? Spicy better! Others talk about the chemistry that prevails between the two partners… Precisely in that chemistry is the key to overcome the boredom and not choose other easy solutions as a lover…

It may also have to do with the loss of desire, which is often dealt with these kind of tips: wear sexy or edible lingerie, do erotic massage or tantra, outdoor sex practices elsewhere, a striptease, etc. But the most important thing is a good communication, spontaneity, passion and creativity. Conform, no! Propose and surprise, yes! You’ll see that everything will become more exciting and pleasurable.

Once you’ve learn your partner’s body, his/her erogenous areas, the confidence will increment and the sex will become more tender, entertained and intense. The outcome of the chapter is in your imagination, your instincts and your fantasies.

Make a trip with your partner! Paris can be an ideal destination to arouse the carnal passion between both. Rent Apartments in Paris, so you can enjoy all the needed comforts to reinvent your sexual pleasures.

Conceptual art

Posted by paris | paris | Wednesday 30 December 2009 4:48 pm

Conceptual art first emerged in the late 60s in response to freeing the concept of art from museums, galleries or any space or object where art is shown. Conceptual art takes the principles of the idea, not the object.

duchamps-urinal

The artists of conceptual art don’t believe in art exhibitions in museums and neither have they believed in painting or sculptures. They think about going beyond the traditional art space or turning any objects into a work of art. So, the idea of art is more important than the object of the work.

The basis of this artistic movement can be found in the European Dadaist movement of the early twentieth century. Creator was Marcel Duchamp, who also invented the concept “ready-made”. A concept that is very difficult to define even for its creator and it’s based on a reaction to visual art.
The art “ready-made” is created in the mind of the artist and uses everyday objects which take the subjectivity of the artist to establish a new concept of art.

One of the most famous works was Duchamp’s urinal (see photo) which was sent to the Grand Central Gallery in New York in 1917 and was voted as the most influential work of modern art. Today this work continues to inspire thousands of artists and laying the foundations of modern art and putting the creative process that precedes the creation of the work.

Yves Klein revolutionized the French company when he exhibited his work called “Blue”. A patented colour (IKB: International Klein Blue), the extension of colour stretching to infinity in the words of a cosmic artist.

The English landscape artist Richard Long chose to revolutionize British art in England incorporating leaves, stems, stones and various materials in his work. In 1989 Richard Long won the Turner prize, one of the most prestigious competitions in modern art worldwide.

Many of these wonderful works of art are in the capital city of culture par excellence, Paris. So, if you want to take delight in them rent Paris apartments and enjoy the conceptual and avant-garde art.

The last day of your life - why not spend it in Paris?

Posted by paris | paris | Tuesday 1 December 2009 11:49 am

What would you do if tomorrow were the last day of your life? Stop and think about it for a moment. Most people would prefer to be with people they love and tell them how important they are. But maybe others would prefer to buy a ticket for the first flight to a mysterious destination to live his/her last hours in an unknown land. What are you thinking about? I can bet a few of you are dreaming of Paris: the French capital will take you to paradise.

eiffel-tower-paris

Life is a short, but an exciting adventure. We never think that today might be the last day, and we just live! But this question may allow us to savour every detail of our daily routine. Think about it, what would be the ideal situation or place to die? In the arms of your soul mate, lost in a mountain, on a boat in the blue horizon, or maybe at the highest point of the Eiffel Tower?

Why not climb the 1665 stairs of the “Iron Lady” and see the whole city for last time? You can also visit the Louvre and take a look at all the artworks and then sit on a terrace and watch the people walking while having a drink. Taste a culinary specialty such as snails, a cheese fondue, mussels with chips or a Quiche Lorraine. Drink a glass of red wine or French champagne and then eat a small piece of cake to digest it all. One of the most fascinating and strange visits would be going to the famous Père Lachaise cemetery. It is the largest in Paris, where people like Edith Piaf, Marcel Proust, Molière, Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde are buried. This is a place where meditation surrounded by nature is more than possible.

Remember the best moments of your life, seek the peace, telling people what you’ve never dared to say, rob a bank, be a kamikaze… All desires are legitimate and you can choose anything. Now that’s what I call a real luxury!

Choose the French capital in your list of cities you have to visit once in your life! The charm and magic of Paris can be a wonderful idea to spend the last day of your life. Rent apartments in Paris and spend unforgettable nights in the city of lights. And of course, Carpe Diem!

Our Sexual Appetite Knows No Boundaries

Posted by paris | paris | Wednesday 25 November 2009 11:16 am

Lately, Spanish society has been debating about sexual education for minors, which may be a step towards the demystification of sex. Because, don’t let anyone fool you, sex is still a taboo that is often treated with great caution even though it’s the most natural thing on earth. In fact, the Bible already refers to our sexual desires, as being one of the seven deadly sins: Lust.

lust

Lust is an intense or unrestrained sexual or an inordinate appetite for carnal pleasures. According to the Bible, sexual pleasures are very serious issues which should not be exaggerated. You could suffer from lust! And that is condemned by the Catholic Church - you have to control your impulses or you will get stuck in the second stage of purgatory. In the emblematic work of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy (1308-1321), the souls of the lustful and others who sinned through love were caught in a huge whirlwind that brought them the greatest solitude.

Sometimes the word lust sounds rather negative, because it is considered a form of power over others, the only goal being to satisfy your own sexual hunger. With this theme, we also associate the Greek Gods and Goddesses Aphrodite, Dionysus and Eros, the Hindu God Kamadeva or the Mexican godess of filth, vice and sexual misdeeds, Tlazolteotl. They all have some relationship with lust, because they are symbols of ecstasy, excess, insanity, sexual attraction, desire or love … In short, this cardinal sin teaches us that we must control our hormones ! One great lover, Don Juan, perfectly illustrates this human vice: he was addicted to sex and women. He seduced hundreds of women, but as soon as he got them into his bed his interest faded.

Today we have pornography, cybersex, Playboy and Penthouse, erotic toys, Sex Shops and webcams etc. People are searching for a permanent state of pleasure to avoid pain.

Sex is the most searched word on the Internet and humanity wants fun, pleasure and lust! Alcohol abuse, tobacco, drugs, video games, spending too much money, not having enough sleep All these habits have a negative effect on our health. In contrast, sexual desire is something natural that doesn’t have to be repressed! As long as you are in control, you don’t have to worry. Did you know that orange is the colour that most arouses the carnal appetite, creativity, energy and wisdom?

One last little thing: to experience passion and lust, there is no better place than Paris, the city of love. Invite your loved one to the best apartments in Paris, and enjoy your sins without limits.

Paris and its Surrealism

Posted by paris | paris | Wednesday 18 November 2009 1:21 pm

Are you familiar with the images of an eye cut by a blade, the back of a woman that looks like a violin, strange collages or poems without any sense? The Centre Pompidou in paris presents an exceptional exhibition (until 11th of January 2010) : “The subversion of images: surrealism, photo, film”. Beaubourg, the third most visited place in Paris after the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, exhibits over 400 works of surrealists, divided into nine room in this impressive building built by the Italian Renzo Piano. Take a walk in the charming neighboorhoods of Les Halles and Le Marais and enter into this avant-garde centre, invaded by the surrealists…

paris surrealism

It has been almost 80 years since a revolutionary and innovative art movement was born in Paris: Surrealism. The horrors of the First World War reflected into the minds of these artists: the art was pure, subversive, provocative and non-conventional. There was no reason or logic, they looked only for the beauty and truthful meaning of dreams, women, nude, love, the unusual, chance… the unconscious. Immediately appeared photographs, short films and all types of publications whose contents propose a change of heart …

The exhibition presents unknown works, photomontages, publications in magazines and books, group photos and much more. Did you know that the erotic and absurd humor of Surrealism and its de-construction of real life were a great source of inspiration for the advertising companies in the ’20s and ’30s? For example, the famous female face with tears of pearls by Man Ray was used to promote a mascara. Paul Eluard, Antonin Artaud, Hans Bellmer, Claude Cahun, Raoul Ubac, Jacques-André Boiffard, Maurice Tabard and Luis Buñuel are some of the other artists. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to discover the talent of the Surrealists and start seeing things differently …

Still not convinced about the quality and importance of this exhibition? Take a look at the presentation video on the website of the Centre Pompidou. A avant-goût of the fascinating surrealist universe that will make you want to leave for Paris tomorrow.

Going down one of those blue stairs at the Beaubourg, and keep your eyes open because you can see up to Montmartre! Once outside, discover the neighborhood with it’s street performers, the shops and stores and its charming restaurants and brasseries. You have until Jan. 11 to visit “The subversion of images: surrealism, picture, film”.

Why not organize a trip to Paris with Surrealism as a theme? It will be a lot of fun… But you’ll need a touch of rationality: a cheap and comfortable accommodation to dream like an artist! Rent the best apartments in Paris, the city where new artforms are born.
